Deanna Nightengale, 75, died peacefully in her own bed on April 29, 2026, following complications from pancreatic cancer. Her life was defined by devotion, generosity, and joy. A longtime resident of Oak Park, she poured her heart into every role she embraced. Her family was her world and her students were an extension of it, touched by her patience, her kindness, and her belief in their potential.

Her dad, Eugene, was her hero and role model, shaping her sense of strength, humor, and compassion.

She found happiness in a good book, a thriving garden, and cheering — loudly and proudly (often at a distance) — for her favorite sports teams, especially when her children were on the field or in the pool.

Even after a stroke earlier in her life affected her communication and mobility, she continued to love, connect, and show up. She met challenges with strength, humor, and a determination that inspired. She taught by example — how to persevere, and how to find joy.

She leaves behind her husband, Brian; her children, Emily (Al), Mark (Reba), and Jane (Chris); her grandchildren, Ruby, Roxy, Sorin, Cody, Beau, Tate and Colin. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, compassion, and love. Her spirit will continue to bloom in the lives she shaped.
