Viewpoints columnist Josh VanderBerg has anointed northwest Oak Park as the ideal site for a zoning pilot [Sept. 9]. A neighborhood, notably, that isn’t his own. His ideal location for a “safe” pilot site conveniently lands on someone else’s streets, full of real residents who would live with the impact firsthand.
The village hasn’t agreed to a pilot, let alone a location; nothing on the board’s own agenda says otherwise. Mr. VanderBerg has put the cart miles ahead of the horse. Before we start drawing boundaries on a map, we need to resolve the questions actually on the table. And if a pilot is ever seriously proposed, the first question isn’t where — it’s what happens if it fails, and how any damage gets undone.
