Veronica Josephine Tabet, 67, died peacefully in her home, surrounded by her four children, on May 23, 2026. Born on September 22, 1958, she lived her life with compassion, vivacity, love, and integrity. She was an educator, an avid reader, a world traveler, and a supporter of the arts. She held a deep appreciation for the wonders of nature. Above all, she loved and valued her family fiercely and deeply.
Born and raised in River Forest, she was the daughter of the late Caesar and Patricia Tabet, the oldest of six children.
She attended Trinity High School (1976) and graduated from Rosary College (now Dominican University) in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts in English after spending a year studying in Fribourg, Switzerland. In 2003 she earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Dominican University and began a deeply fulfilling career in education. Over more than 20 years, she touched the lives of thousands of students at Park Junior High in LaGrange.
She was a special teacher who had a talent to enrich and spark curiosity in both her most gifted students and those who needed extra care and attention alike. She felt fortunate to have the privilege of shaping young minds to think critically about literature and the world. Over the years, former students would often visit and write to express how much she had impacted their lives long after middle school was over.
As a mother and grandmother she inspired whimsy, laughter, joy, creativity, and imagination in all she did.
Veronica is survived by her children, Patricia (Bradley) Giordano, Elizabeth Boden, Camille (Michael) Croghan and George (Taylor) Boden; her grandchildren, Frances and August Giordano, Georgia and Michael Croghan, and James H. Boden; her siblings, Monica Tabet Brennan, Caesar A. (Kathleen) Tabet, Joseph (Anne) Tabet, Mary (Patrick) Leone and Josephine (Robert) Sarvis; and 15 nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 31 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Salerno Galewood Chapel, 1857 N. Harlem Ave., Chicago. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 1 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church, Lombard, with interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider charitable donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization dear to Veronica’s heart throughout her life.
