Oak Park police officers observed a CTA train derail at the Green Line Harlem/Lake stop this afternoon, according to the Village of Oak Park.
At approximately 3:01 p.m. a westbound CTA train came off its tracks, but remained upright, as it pulled into the stop near Marion Street, wrote the village spokesperson in an email.
Officers stationed at Oaktoberfest on Marion Street and North Boulevard witnessed the incident and the Oak Park Fire Department also responded to a small fire on the tracks.
All passengers were evacuated, and three people were taken to area hospitals by Oak Park Fire Department with non-life-threatening injuries.
Power was turned off for the officers to assess the situation, but the CTA has since resumed normal operations. According to the village, the cause of the derailment is still unknown.
The CTA shared an alert at 3:17 p.m., on Sept. 26, that Green Line trains were running with residual delays because of “earlier track conditions” and noted people should allow for extra travel time.
The CTA live tracker on the website shows minor delays going both directions on the Green Line at the time of publishing (7:35 p.m.).
