Oak Park police are investigating an incident where more than $50,000 in cash was reportedly stolen from a local home.
An Oak Park woman reported to police on May 20 that burglars had stolen a Ziplock bag full of money that she’d hidden under her bed. The bag reportedly contained $57,000 in cash, according to police.
The home where the burglary took place is located in the 100 block of North Austin Boulevard, according to police records.
Battery arrest
On May 16, police arrested an 18-year-old Oak Park man on battery charges in connection with an incident that occurred in the 1100 block of Austin Boulevard. The man was also charged with felony escape and two counts of resisting arrest, according to police records.
A 17-year-old boy from Chicago was also charged with battery in connection with the incident. The juvenile was later charged with criminal damage to property and battery to a police officer while in custody, according to police records.
Motor vehicle theft
Oak Park police are also investigating reports of a stolen car in the village,
A Maywood resident had reportedly left their 2015 Honda Civic running when they parked it in the 1000 block of Lake Street on May 20. They returned to see that the car had been stolen, according to police.
The stolen vehicle has been entered into L.E.A.D.S. and is valued at $12,000, according to police.
These items were obtained from Oak Park’s Police Department reports dated May 16 – May 20 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated.
