We’d heard the worries that a helicopter had been hovering over the Eisenhower for hours and hours. Of course, people assumed it was ICE. Well, positive news: The helicopter belongs to the Cook County Sheriff and has been monitoring only the low-lifes who have taken to driving on the shoulders of the interstates.
We have taken such dangerous actions as a further sign of the end of civilization, so we’re glad to see that the sheriff’s department is on this case, and has been over several months.
The closure this week of The Buzz is sad news. We’ll take this moment though to celebrate The Buzz and its inventor and determined curator Laura Maychruk who sold the business a couple of years ago.
The Buzz was the core of the Arts District/Irving/el riding/bike riding neighborhood. Maychruk breathed life into The Buzz but also into the amorphous concept of an arts district. As the leader of that district for decades, Maychruk lured entrepreneurs, launched events, outlasted the Kleronomos family, which kept multiple retail spaces vacant forever, and she always shared the limelight.
We’d say there would not be an Arts District if there wasn’t a Buzz.
