The Oak Park and River Forest High School boys swimming team is heading into this week’s West Suburban Conference Silver Division meet with plenty of momentum after winning the Lyons Township Invitational Jan. 27.
The Huskies took home the title with 262 points, 33.5 more than runner-up Marmion Academy. OPRF won two relays and two individual events each.
Senior Lars Rauch won the 50 freestyle in a time of 21.97 seconds, and classmate Adan Pedraza took the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.02.
OPRF’s 200 medley relay of junior Pablo Pareja, Pedraza, junior Josh Wood, and freshman Jack Murphy had a winning time of 1:38.56, and the 200 freestyle relay of Pedraza, Wood, junior Will Keyes, and Rauch was victorious in 1:28.10.
Second-place efforts were turned in by Pareja in the 100 butterfly (53.51), Wood in the 50 freestyle (23.03), Rauch in the 100 freestyle (48.12), and Murphy in the 500 freestyle (4:55.50). The Huskies’ 400 freestyle relay of Murphy, Pareja, Keyes, and Rauch finished second in 3:14.06.
Other standout OPRF performances came from Keyes in the 200 freestyle (3rd, 1:47.01) and 100 freestyle (3rd, 48.78); Pedraza (3rd, 2:02.14) and Murphy (4th, 2:03.16) in the 200 IM; Pareja in the 100 backstroke (3rd, 52.84); and junior Lucas Puntillo in the 100 breaststroke (4th, 1:06.68).
The Huskies next meet is the WSC Silver championship at York, Feb. 2 at 5:30 p.m.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Freshman Taryn Draine scored 17 points to lead OPRF (5-20) to a 51-42 home victory over Proviso East Jan. 23.
The Huskies also dropped a pair of WSC Silver contests: 58-36 at Proviso West, Jan. 25; and 67-25 to visiting Downers Grove North, Jan. 26.
OPRF wraps up WSC Silver play Feb. 2 at Hinsdale Central.
