Midterm elections are almost upon us, and early voting is quickly coming to a close at 5 p.m. on Monday. The polls will reopen on Election Day, Nov. 3 at 6 a.m., here is what you need to know:

There are 57 suburban locations for early voting, and election day voters can cast their ballot in their home precinct or at one of the six Vote Centers around Chicagoland. The closest Vote Center to Oak Park is the Maybrook Courthouse at 1311 Maybrook Square in Maywood.

Voters can find their polling place on the Cook County Clerk Office’s website. Same day registration is available on Election Day to vote in-person with two forms of identification, one showing the current eligible address, required. Mail-in ballots have to be post marked by Election Day, and you can find a ballot drop box on the Illinois State Board of Elections website.

There are two main races Wednesday Journal will be covering in real time on Election Night: Illinois’ 7th Congressional District race with State Rep. LaShawn Ford and the advisory referendum on repealing restrictions on state investment in businesses boycotting Israel.

Ford is running to fill U.S. Rep. Danny Davis’ seat and is projected to win against Republican nominee Chad Koppie. Ford won the Democratic primary election with about 23.7% of the vote against a dozen other candidates, and Davis himself endorsed him.

I’ll be joining my colleague Jessica Mordacq at Ford’s campaign watch party on the South Side to get live results and reactions as Election Night goes on.

The advisory referendum question, “Should the State of Illinois repeal laws that ban state investment in businesses that boycott the State of Israel,” has stirred up a lot of civic engagement leading up to elections. Organized groups on either side of the issue have been advocating their position across Oak Park, and reporter Gregg Voss has been there every step of the way.

Election Night will be no different as Voss will provide updates as the night goes on.

Check out some of his coverage and advocacy websites to learn more about both sides:
