Two men armed with firearms approached a Chicago resident as the individual left a business on the 500 block of South Austin Boulevard Jan. 24. One of the men stole the victim’s keys and white 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The vehicle was seen followed by a darker grey Audi Q7 with two other men inside. Illinois State Police located the Jeep after it was abandoned at Interstate 290 and Kostner Avenue in Chicago. No arrests were made.

Armed robbery

Two individuals entered an Oak Park business on the 600 block of Madison Street Jan. 27. They displayed a black handgun and demanded money. One individual grabbed money from the opened register. That individual then hopped over the counter and stole more money from the unlocked safe. The two individuals then fled on foot eastbound on Madison Street. The estimated loss is $423.80.

Criminal trespass to property arrest

A Chicago man was arrested for criminal trespass to property on the 200 block of Chicago Avenue Jan. 24. He was had been warned not to return to the property. The man was detained, issued a citation and released.

Criminal damage to property

Someone broke the 10-foot-by-10-foot window of an Oak Park business’ building located at 1100 block of Lake Street. The incident, which occurred Jan. 27, resulted in estimated damages of $30,000.

Theft

Someone used a cutting tool to get through a pad lock of an Oak Park resident’s storage unit on the 1100 block of Holly Court. Once the individual had access, they stole antique pictures, ash trays and art objects. The incident, which occurred between Aug. 25, 2023 and Jan. 25, 2024, resulted in an estimated loss of $23,000.

Aggravated assault

 A Chicago resident was driving eastbound on Washington Boulevard Jan. 25 when he stopped behind a red Lincoln sedan parked in the road. Two men got out of the sedan, one displaying a firearm. The victim then drove away.

Motor vehicle theft 

  • Someone stole an Oak Park resident’s silver 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee while it was parked at the 200 block of Thomas Street. The person may have got in the car through an unlocked door. The incident, which occurred between Jan. 26 and Jan. 27, resulted in an estimated loss of $25,000.
  • Someone stole a Chicago business’ black 2023 BMW X3. The incident occurred between Jan. 26 and Jan. 27 and resulted in an estimated loss of $50,000.
  • Someone stole an Oak Park resident’s navy blue 2022 Kia Sportage, possibly gaining entry through an unlocked door. The incident occurred on Jan. 28 on the 100 block of North Scoville Avenue and resulted in an estimated loss of $25,000.

Domestic battery arrest 

  • A man from Oak Park was arrested for domestic battery against an Oak Park resident on Jan. 24 at the 0-100 block of North Austin Boulevard.
  • A man from Summit, Ill., was arrested for domestic battery against an Oak Park resident on Jan. 28 at the 400 block of North Humphrey Avenue. He was transported to the station, processed and held for bond hearings.

Battery arrest

 A woman from Bellwood, Ill., was arrested for battery after she kicked a Berwyn resident in the side, causing her to fall. The incident occurred on Jan. 26 at the 900 block of Lake Street. She was transported to the station, processed, issued a citation and released.

These items were obtained from Oak Park Police Department reports dated Jan. 23-29, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public’s help in making an arrest.
