A black Ruger 357 revolver and two jewelry boxes were taken during a home burglary between 6 p.m. and 7:52 p.m., Jan. 30 in the 1200 block of North Ridgeland Avenue.
Police were alerted to the scene by a security alarm and discovered that an unknown individual had kicked open the rear door to the residence. It was further found that the burglar had taken two jewelry boxes, which contained rings and cufflinks, and a firearm from a bedroom. The estimated loss is $2,050.
Motor vehicle theft
- A 2018 Nissan Altima was removed from the 400 block of Harrison Street between 10 p.m., Feb. 4, and 6:40 a.m., Feb. 5. The vehicle was recovered later Feb. 5 in the first block of Garfield Avenue.
- Someone removed a 2015 Hyundai Sonata parked in the 1300 block of North Austin Boulevard between 11:30 a.m. and 1:10 p.m., Feb. 2.
- Someone removed a 2017 Hyundai Sonata parked in the 200 block of South Maple Avenue between 5:30 p.m. and 6:50 p.m., Feb. 2.
- A 2014 Hyundai Elantra was taken from the 200 block of Washington Boulevard between 6 p.m., Jan. 26, and 6:50 a.m., Feb. 1.
- A 2003 Buick Century parked in the first block of Washington Boulevard was removed between noon, Jan. 29, and 7 a.m., Jan. 30. The vehicle was recovered by Oak Park police at 9 a.m., Jan. 31.
Attempted motor vehicle theft
- Someone broke the rear driver’s side window of a 2013 Hyundai Sonata parked in the 6200 block of North Avenue between 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., Feb. 2.
- Someone broke the rear passenger’s side window of a Hyundai Sonata of an unknown year and then peeled the vehicle’s steering column between 5 p.m. and 10:44 p.m., Feb. 3.
Theft
- The catalytic converter was cut from a 2012 Hyundai of unknown model between 6 p.m., Feb. 2, and 7:30 a.m., Feb. 3, in the 100 block of South Scoville Avenue.
- A woman was spotted removing a ButcherBox package from a porch in the 200 block of North Marion Street at 2:31 p.m., Jan. 31. The package contained one 10-ounce package of bacon, three pounds of bone-in chicken thighs, two 10-ounce ribeye steaks, two pounds of ground beef, a pound of shrimp and eight ounces of sliced salmon, for a total estimated loss of $167.
- The catalytic converter was cut from a 2012 Toyota Prius parked in the 400 block of South Taylor Avenue between 7 p.m., Feb. 2, and 8 a.m., Feb. 3.
Criminal property damage
- A railcar window belonging to a Chicago Transit Authority Blue Line train was shattered between 5:54 p.m. and 6:02 p.m., Feb. 1 at 720 S. Austin Blvd.
- Someone shattered the front driver’s side window of a 2008 Ford van between 6 p.m., Feb. 2, and 6 a.m., Feb. 3, in the 400 block of Wisconsin Avenue.
These items were obtained from Oak Park Police Department reports, Jan. 31-Feb. 5, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public’s help in making an arrest.
