OPRF students are requesting that the school calendar be amended to include a holiday to celebrate the Jewish faith’s holiest day. This seems more than reasonable in light of all students having off for Christmas.
However, the incoming superintendent commented that, “In order to claim another day as a non-attendance day, the school year would need to start earlier in August.” Why not just exchange Yom Kippur for another holiday? It would seem fitting that Columbus Day could easily be forfeited for the sake of inclusion.
