Of the candidates for Village President, only Vicki Scaman has served in government. She was elected Village Clerk in 2017 and has brought hard-working, dedicated, and transparent leadership to that office. Prior to that, she served on the Oak Park Liquor Control Review Board from 2011 to 2017 and chaired that body for the last four years. She is president of the Municipal Clerks Association of N/NW Cook County and in that role has assisted municipal clerks across the region in implementing best practices. She has working relationships, not just with other municipal clerks, but with elected officials in our neighboring municipalities.
Beyond government service, she is a board member of the Oak Park-River Forest Chamber of Commerce and is co-chair of the Chamber’s Women in Business initiative, a collaboration with the chambers of commerce of Berwyn, Forest Park, River Forest, and Maywood.
Her other volunteer activities are numerous and productive: please visit her campaign website at www.votevicki.org.
Vicki has the government, the business, and the financial pragmatism and savvy to lead the village board as it seeks to balance the municipal budget and to guide our community’s recovery from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
She has three decades of inspired and proven commitments to equity and inclusion, to youth programs, and to the arts. Her commitment to equity and inclusion has informed her decision-making at every level of her government and her volunteer service, and she is committed to giving equity and inclusion the practical implementation for which there is so much need.
I first met Vicki about 10 years ago in connection with our shared support of the Oak Park Regional Housing Center. I was impressed with her then; I still am now. Vicki has been leading for a long time. She is ready to lead a new village board.
