After serving Oak Park and the surrounding suburbs since 1991, Ino’s Tacos, 7100 Roosevelt Rd., permanently closed on Feb. 20. The small, yet mighty taco joint has been serving Mexican fare in Chicagoland since 1976 and is expected to open a new location in LaGrange Park, at 710 E. 31st St., in the coming months.
In a post to Facebook Ino’s broke the news to followers and fans saying:
“We knew this day would come. Today is our last day open in Oak Park. We wanted to give a big thank you to all of you who have supported us throughout the years. Thank you for all the well wishes on our new venture. We have truly felt the love. So many of you have said how sad it is to see us go. We’re going to miss all of you as well. It’s been a pleasure serving the community. Don’t forget to visit us in LaGrange Park. We’d love to see you.”
The Mexican restaurant known for peddling tacos, burritos and enchiladas announced the impending closure on Jan. 31 and spent the following weeks counting down to closing day. Owners expressed gratitude for their “hard-working, dedicated and responsible team” and indicated current employees will be joining them at the forthcoming LaGrange Park location.
In 2015, Wednesday Journal food writer David Hammond, paid a visit to Ino’s and praised the restaurant:
“Ino’s is a humble place, and it’s the kind of drive-in that looks like it was once something else (maybe Taco Bell?). However, Ino’s serves tacos that are easily as good as ones we’ve had in more expensive places in the United States and even Mexico.”
