FitzGerald’s 33rd Anniversary Show concludes, Jan. 3-4, when longtime favorite Marcia Ball brings her “rollicking roadhouse blues and Southern boogie” to Berwyn. Ball was the first national touring act FitzGerald’s booked back in 1981. Bill FitzGerald saw her on his first trip to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and enticed her to perform up here. Since then, she has brought her brand of “NOLA R&B, soulful ballads and Texas stomp.” Nominated for several Grammys, she has garnered numerous other awards during her career. “A Marcia Ball show is always one of the highlights of our musical year,” says FitzGerald.
Born into a musical family, she began playing piano at age 5, and showed an early interest in New Orleans style piano playing. She has named Irma Thomas, the great New Orleans vocalist, as her chief vocal inspiration.
