Homeowners in Oak Park and River Forest should be receiving bills for their first installment of 2011 property taxes this week.

Property taxes are paid in two installments, and this first bill is calculated as about 55 percent of last year’s total tax bill. Taxpayers should note that successful assessments, and homeowner or senior exemptions, won’t be reflected in this bill, Township Assessor Ali ElSaffar said in a press release.

“The first installment is just an estimate based on what was paid last year,” he said in the release. “When the second installment bill is mailed in the fall, it will reflect all exemptions for which the property is eligible, as well as any ssavings due to successful 2011 tax appeals.”

In-person payments can be made at the Cook County treasurer’s office, or at local Chase Bank branches. Payments are due March 1.
