Ananas of Oak Park (109 N. Oak Park Avenue) has a wide and varied collection of arresting jewelry: an atypical selection of fabulous earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and rings. I am always drawn to the glass cases filled with gold and silver trinkets, colorful treasures, and earth-friendly pieces that their manager, Kim, has carefully edited.

A new addition to Ananas lovely family of fine and costume jewelry is a beautiful layering piece handcrafted by a local artist: a necklace made of oxidized metal combined with vintage glass stones from West Germany.

Ella E.’s designer, Lara McDonald, has named the collection after her only daughter, Ella Elizabeth. Lara was initially inspired by the jewelry collection belonging to her grandmother, a woman with a great affection for things past. Much of Laura’s creativity stems from that passion.

Ella E. jewelry is handcrafted locally in Chicago. The signature oxidized brass is hand-embellished in the USA, and due to the hand-crafted process, each piece possesses a unique color & luster.

Ella E.’s creative mind uses Swarovski crystals, semi-precious stones, and vintage glass stones to craft these one-of-a-kind and limited edition pieces. My favorite part is the natural aging of the metal which truly adds to the charm and vintage feel of each piece.

From our friends at Ella E. Vintage Jewelry:

The oxidation process is eco-friendly and all metal is nickel-free and lead-free and is not antique plated. Ella E. takes great pride in efforts to keep our country green.

The handcrafted clasp on the left side of most necklaces is the Ella E. signature and was initially designed for ease. Many pieces are made to be worn both front and back. The front is with the clasp on the left, over your heart.
