It’s not interesting but it’s often informative when a school board starts talking about what it’s looking for in a new superintendent. At Oak Park and River Forest High School District 200, the chat started when Dr. Attila Weninger announced his retirement.
One subject that has come up and has now come in for some debate is a residency requirement for the new superintendent. Unless the super is the only person with the passkey to turn on the stadium lights, we don’t get this concept.
It’s going to be plenty hard to find the right superintendent. Why the board would want to add an unnecessary residency rule is beyond us. We’re more interested in examining a potential superintendent’s backbone than his home address.
