The OPRF boys lacrosse team came from behind to exact its revenge on cross-town rival Fenwick at the Dominican Priory last week.
Trailing 4-3 at halftime, the Huskies scored three goals in the third and four goals in the final period to secure a 10-4 victory over the Friars.
“We made some major adjustments this time around,” said OPRF head coach Dan Ganschow, whose team lost to Fenwick 6-5 two weeks ago. “We played nice clean lacrosse with minimal penalties and unforced turnovers. The guys just came out in the second half with their heads up and they went to work.”
Junior Josh Drews notched 10 saves in goal for the Huskies, and prevented Fenwick from scoring the entire second half.
Junior Seth Malik led the Huskies with four goals, while seniors Matt Gebert and Jack Buckley each had two goals apiece. Corey Shiffman and Dan Applebaum each added a goal for OPRF.
“Fenwick is a growing program and they are going to be scary as time goes on,” said Ganschow. “The coaches do great work over there. I’m just glad we were able to come away with this victory.”
Decker makes national team
OPRF girls lacrosse player Hannah Decker was recently awarded a spot on the Great Lakes National team.
Decker tried out for the team last weekend, competing against players from four states in the Midwest.
This marks the first time an OPRF girls lacrosse player has made the team outright. Falan Fuquay (2007) and Meaghan Kelley (’05) were alternates on the team.
Decker and the Huskies (14-3, 4-1) upped the team’s win-streak to eight games with a 9-7 victory over St. Charles on Saturday.
OPRF tennis wins invite
The OPRF tennis team took first at the Naper Valley Invitational on Saturday.
The Huskies were led by Tim Martin and Devin Jones, who finished first at No. 1 doubles. Dan Vollman finished runner-up at No. 1 singles for the Huskies.
The Huskies garnered a score of 82, while Hinsdale Central finished second with a 78.
Blazers sweep St. Francis
The Trinity softball team swept St. Francis in doubleheader action 15-5 and 13-9 on Saturday.
In Game 1, the Blazers (19-6) were paced by Monica Albano’s two home runs. Emma-Leigh Strock finished 4-for-4 with two RBIs in the game that lasted six innings.
