Chock up another invitational victory for the OPRF boys track and field team. The Huskies took first at the McCarthy Memorial Invitational held at Hinsdale Central on Friday by winning seven events. It was the team’s fifth first-place finish at in invite this season. The team also won the Jim Arnold invite, the Gateway invite, the Niles West invite, and the Streamwood invite.

At the McCarthy Memorial, Kahlil Draper won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.5 seconds, while Brandon Smith took first in the 100-meter dash in 11.1 seconds. Josh Runnels won the 300-meter hurdles in 41.3 seconds, and Patrick Geoghegan outpaced the distance runners in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:23.5.

The following day, Geoghegan also won the 1,600 at the Pete Reiff Invitational with a time of 4:25.22. The Huskies finished second at that invite with 149 points behind Hoffman Estates.

Girls track takes second at WSC Meet

A thunderstorm delayed a significant portion of the girls track West Suburban (Silver) Conference Meet held at Lyons Township on Friday. When the races and field events resumed, teams were forced to deal with yet another problem: the fading daylight.

Despite the obstacles, the OPRF girls track team managed to come away with a second place finish (109 points). The Huskies won seven events, including the discus where Brittany Smith won with a toss of 136-4 for a meet record. Kaniece Pitts won two events for OPRF. Pitts finished first in both the 100-meter dash (12.4 seconds) and the long jump (18-1). She also helped the 4 x 100 relay team of Tejuanna Williams, Raven Adams, and Kristen Kwakwa to first in 48.8 seconds.

A rainstorm halted the 1600-meter run midway through, which forced the race to be run again from the start. The stop-start didn’t seem to faze OPRF’s Katherine Rack, who finished first in 11:14.4.

Kristen Weismantle won the pole vault event with a leap of 9-6. The event had to be lighted by headlights of strategically placed cars.

Hinsdale Central won the meet with 154 points.

Fenwick’s Margaret Connelly won the 3,200-meter run at the East Suburban Catholic Conference Meet. The sophomore, who also placed second in the 1,600 (5:19.51), finished the 3,200 in 12:05.66.

Rachel Falk led the Friars in the field events with a second place finish in the high jump (4-10).
