Longtime area business Plunkett Furniture, which moved to River Forest from Oak Park in the 1960s, announced last month it is closing its doors in a consolidation move. The business, a fixture on the 7600 block of North Avenue for decades, is expected to close in late March or early April after an extended multimillion-dollar going out of business sale.
The closing is the second significant retailer to go off the River Forest sales tax rolls in recent months. Last fall, national chain Linen’s ‘N’ Things, located in River Forest Town Center II, closed its door after the chain filed for bankruptcy. The space has not yet been leased to a new tenant.
In a finance committee meeting Monday night, Village Treasurer Chris Soriano indicated he expected both sites to remain vacant at least for the next year.
