Robert Compton, 88, died peacefully in his sleep on June 1, 2026 after being on dialysis for 14 years. Born on April 11, 1938 on a farm in South Louisiana, he taught himself how to weld and became an expert when he came north to the Chicago area.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sept. 26, at Unity Temple, 675 Kenilworth Ave., Oak Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Unity Temple are appreciated.
