Thank you, Taylor and Travis.

There was a time in my life when I hated pro football — well, all football — with something of a passion. It was a time when men had a primary relationship with televised sports, in particular football, and worshipped at the TV/altar. All weekend. Including when they were parents to newborns and toddlers.

A couple of times I left the house in a huff. One time I went to a Richard Pryor movie that was so filthy I didn’t get some of the jokes. Another time I was working at a Women for Peace rally (Vietnam) when I got a call that one child was in the emergency room, having gotten out of the playpen when her dad was downstairs watching sports.

I haven’t paid much attention to Taylor Swift until recently. I was really puzzled when some serious grown women I know paid a fortune to see her when she played in Chicago last year. And I would not have been even mildly interested in Travis Kelce, another huge football player. What does a tight end do anyway?

I’ve changed. I started watching football when my grandson went to Tulane, a school that was winning quite a bit in its conference. Maybe it’s because TV screens are so much bigger now than 50 years ago, but I can usually follow who has the ball.

Then came this beautiful young woman, incredibly talented, who actually shimmers when she sees Kelce and runs into his arms. As for His Hunkiness, forget his size and his football prowess.

It’s his smile, kids.
