I’m writing in reply to the letter writer alleging thousands of dollars of damage to their car due to new Oak Park speed bumps. [Help or hazard? Viewpoints, Oct. 28]
The speed bumps are installed on minor collector and residential side streets intended for low speeds and local traffic. If you are hitting the bumps at a speed necessary to do thousands of dollars in damage to your car, then you are the reason the speed bumps are needed in the first place. You would certainly have to exceed the speed limit to sustain such damage. Ironic, considering the letter also included an unrelated rant about cyclists not following “the rules of the road.”
But I digress. Rather than waste your own money, and that of the taxpayer, on a frivolous lawsuit against the village, I have a simpler suggestion to solve the issue permanently: slow down.
