Bravo to the Journal for conducting a zoning survey! Finally, a serious attempt to gauge actual community sentiment, despite the Oak Park Board of Trustees’ rejection of an advisory referendum.
However, a serious deficiency in the survey is that it asks about only 2- to 4-flats. But the actual proposal makes virtually every single-family home in Oak Park replaceable by a 6-flat, provided only that it includes two “affordable housing” units.
This board is unlikely to reject any such application, leaving every homeowner at risk of a 6-flat next door.
Your survey should have included that information.
