The village of Oak Park has added “bike boulevards” to our streets in an effort to make biking safer. I am in favor of safer biking. The village seems to be advocating to rezone single-family housing neighborhoods as well. The latter would bring more cars and parked cars to our streets. Bike lanes only work when cars can neither drive nor park in them. Today, we have no such bike lanes — whether you call them “bike boulevards” or not. Rezoning is going to make actual bike lanes less possible. It seems you can’t have everything.
