Mary Lynn Dietsche, 80, of Oak Park, died peacefully at her home in Belmont Village on Oct. 11, 2026, after a day filled with family, friends, and sewing. She was in good spirits, surrounded by the familiar comforts of home and the creative pursuits that brought her so much joy.
Born on July 10, 1946, she had a gift for imagining what could be made from a collection of fabrics, always dreaming up the next quilt she would create. Her mind was continually alive with new ideas, colors, patterns, and possibilities.
A longtime member of the Oak Park community, she was connected to St. Edmund Parish and remained part of the extended community of friends and classmates from St. Thomas Aquinas.
Her final day offers a fitting reflection of the life she lived: connected to the people she loved, engaged in the work that inspired her, and in good spirits at home. She leaves behind the quilts she created, the quilts she dreamed of making, and the lasting memories she made with family and friends.
Mary Lynn is survived by her siblings, Nora Abboreno (Tony), Frank McGuff (Sam), and Luke McGuff (Julie); her nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends whose lives were enriched by knowing her.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Beyond Hunger, an organization she supported throughout her life in Oak Park.
