Let’s say that our elected officials completely disregard our generally huge opposition to the zoning change to allow multi-unit buildings on residential lots. Literally the next day developers may start offering way over current valuations for houses in Oak Park. Cash sales. A lot of vintage residential houses start disappearing. Next, they build multi-unit buildings and rapidly overwhelm Oak Park with an increased population that our schools and streets are unprepared for. The developers won’t care. And if the village starts getting picky on what is being built after their ill-advised zoning change, the village gets flooded with developer lawsuits, and millions more of our tax dollars dealing with the aftermath. There are suitable places to build multifamily homes, but not by demolishing single-family residences and squishing them in between houses.
