This letter is written to strenuously object to the rezoning code the village board is proposing. I have been a resident of Oak Park for over 50 years, and throughout that time my family has enjoyed, and cherished, the friendly atmosphere that single-dwelling housing engenders. Aside from increased traffic congestion, increased parking difficulties, increased burden on our schools, increased burden on Oak Park infrastructure, increased car pollution of the air we breathe, and predictable decreases in home values, the board’s proposal of multi-story apartment buildings next to single-family structures will destroy the special architectural heritage that Oak Park has created for over 100 years. This is truly a bad idea, and we hope that the village board will reconsider its serious negative consequences.
