Oak Park may be moving its board meetings, held at Village Hall, to Tuesdays in 2024.

U.S. Bank has requested special approval and variation for a new drive-thru facility on Madison Street just a block from its current location as the village continues to look at the present site for a proposed police station.

The village’s zoning board of appeals will review two requests for the new site at 44 Madison St., at a meeting on Sept. 2. U.S. Bank is asking for special approval for a drive-through and another variance of allowing the drive-thru without an adjacent bail-out lane. The zoning board will make a recommendation on the drive-thru request to the village board. The zoning board is authorized to grant a variance regarding the absence of a bail-out lane.

The financial institution is currently located at 11 Madison St., and that site has been the top contender for the village to build a new police station. However, the bank has been resistant.

In November 2025, the village board selected the location and in January, the village board voted to begin a “quick take” expedited eminent domain process. Gov. JB Pritzker signed SB3107, now Public Act 104-0816, on Aug. 7 which grants authority to the village for this process “to acquire specified properties in Cook County for the development of a public building or facility,” according to the village.

“The village is continuing to negotiate with U.S. Bank to reach a potential agreement to acquire the property,” wrote a spokesperson in an email to Wednesday Journal.
