Numerous articles have been written by Oak Park residents expressing concerns about the proposed elimination of single-family zoning. While forums have reportedly been established to solicit community feedback, many Oak Parkers may not even be aware that these opportunities exist.
What has been missing in my opinion, is a clear, widely communicated study and plan outlining potential impacts and intended/evidence-based outcomes of such a significant policy change. As numerous Oak Parkers have stated many times over, residents deserve meaningful opportunities to understand the proposal and make their voices heard.
For the board to reject a non-binding referendum is particularly troubling to say the least. Rejecting that opportunity raises an important question:
Is this hubris or is the board simply tone-deaf?
