Curious Minds and Outdoor Adventurer youth camp participants were using the playground at Oliver Wendell Holmes Elementary School Wednesday morning when an RV crashed through a fence and hit a tree.
According to the Park District of Oak Park, no children or staff members were hurt. Everyone was taken inside safely where Lego and Outdoor Explorer campers were already located.
The Oak Park Police Department responded to the crash around 9:44 a.m., at Chicago and Kenilworth Avenues, according to a village spokesperson. The driver sustained cuts to her left leg and hand and was taken to Rush Oak Park Hospital to be treated. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
“We understand this could have been scary for your children to witness and wanted to report the incident to you to best support your child. Any additional questions, please feel free to reach out,” wrote the Park District in an email to parents that was shared with Wednesday Journal.
There was damage to the fence on the Holmes property, but there were not any students or staff involved according to the District 97.
