We would like to express our support for a village referendum on the issue of zoning changes before any Oak Park Village Board vote for adoption. Our position is that the role of the trustees is to:
1) Identify problems and issues within the village and to inform and educate the residents
2) Identify solutions and options and present the pros and cons for each.
3) Present the opinions of the board as to which solution/option it feels is optimal for the village and why.
It is up to the resident taxpayers to make the final decision and the role of the board to execute that decision, even if the board does not endorse it.
We respect the expertise and opinions of the board but the importance of any issue that may change the character of the village demands that my fellow residents be the ultimate decision-makers.
