For years I have really enjoyed the Shrubtown cartoons of Marc Stopeck. Their quality would merit inclusion in the Chicago Tribune or Chicago Sun-Times, if in fact they even had editorial cartoons — which they don’t. So we’re pretty fortunate here in the villages that Marc’s wit and artistic talent have merged to give us the opportunity to laugh at ourselves, and to learn about more difficult civic subjects via the medium of his cartoons.
However, I was very surprised to learn that Marc has been contributing these gems for 35 years! His cartoons, and Wednesday Journal itself, are gifts to all of us, and congratulations to both of you.
By the way, Marc Stopeck will talk about his 35 years of Shrubtown at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, at the Oak Park River Forest Museum, 129 Lake St. in Oak Park, sponsored by the Historical Society of Oak Park-River Forest. I look forward to being there.
