John F. Hosty, 71, of River Forest, died on May 29, 2026. June 9, 1954, he was a former deputy assessor with Cook County and a longtime Democratic committeeman, representing River Forest. A huge White Sox fan, he loved his grandchildren, BBQ, spending time in Michigan and traveling with his wife, Lissa. He was a huge supporter of all things Fenwick High School and served as an assistant softball coach for the Friars.

John was the husband of Elizabeth “Lissa” (nee McAndrews) Hosty; the father of Caitlin (Hunter) Springate, the grandfather of John, Martin and Caroline Springate; the brother of P.J. (Kathy), Terry (Ellen), Della Hosty, the late Larry (Nancy), the late Thomas (Susan) Hosty III and the late Robert (the late Peggy) Hosty; the brother-in-law of the late Patrick McAndrews, Megan (Tom) McEnroe, Nancy McAndrews, Sheila (Tim) Toohey, and John (Katie) McAndrews; and the uncle of many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends will be received at the Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home, 10501 W. Cermak Road, Westchester on June 9 from 3 until 8 p.m. with funeral Mass on June 10 at St. Luke Church in River Forest at 10 a.m. Inurnment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory would be appreciated to Misericordia Heart of Mercy or the Fenwick High School Fathers Club. Arrangements were handled by the Original Kuratko Family, Brian D. Kuratko – Director.
