Hi, everybody, it’s Farmers Market Time! Tabling for Go Plastic Free last week reminded me to remind you how to boost your level of sustainable market behavior. Here’s my yearly reminder:
Not only bring your reusable bag (so many of you do – thank you!), but also bring a few plastic clamshells (I’m sure you have some) for any smaller or more tender fruits or veggies you buy. Last week I spontaneously bought radish sprouts but had forgotten to bring clamshells.
When I commented on the clamshell I was now about to take home, the vendor said, “Bring it back,” which I certainly will. Use your own clamshells for blueberries to avoid that #%@* plastic bag! Return to our wonderful vendors the plastic containers and baskets from things like strawberries or blueberries. It not only helps the vendor save some money, but reusing (as opposed to recycling) is the best thing for the environment.
Y’all have nailed that reusable bag. As my Go Plastic Freer friend says: now do one more thing! Bring those clamshells!
