Oak Park police arrested a man on felony charges in connection with a reported attack on three Oak Park police officers last week.
Police arrested the 25-year-old Chicago man at 7:20 p.m. in the 900 block of North Boulevard last week. The man was charged with three counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, disorderly conduct – false alarm and resisting a peace officer, according to police records.
The man is currently in Cook County custody, set to be arraigned on Tuesday, May 19, according to county records.
Aggravated assault
Oak Park police are also investigating a reported assault involving a baseball bat and a firearm.
The victim approached the suspect in the 1200 block of North Lombard and began speaking to him at around 4:45 May 11. The suspect then threatened to hurt the victim before going into a nearby residence, according to police.
The suspect returned with a firearm and pointed it at the victim. The suspect then left again, returned with a baseball bat and attacked the victim with the bat, according to police.
ATM theft
Oak Park police are investigating the latest incident in a string of reported early-morning ATM thefts in the village.
Three unknown offenders rammed a Jeep Cherokee into the BP gas station building in the 500 block of Austin Boulevard just before 3:50 a.m. May 8, gaining entry to the building through the crash. Once inside, the offenders removed the gas station’s ATM machine and placed it inside a maroon Dodge SUV, according to police.
The Dodge was last seen driving south on Austin as the Jeep was left at the scene, according to police.
Police are investigating a nearly identical Jeep ramming ATM theft at the Shell gas station across the street on April 30. Police also responded to reports of an attempted ATM theft at an Austin Boulevard business on May 7.
These items were obtained from Oak Park’s Police Department reports dated May 10 – May 18 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed a description of the suspect as they seek the public’s help in making an arrest.
