Melissa Callahan Watters, 51, of Oak Park, died on May 2, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and friends. A proud Chicago native who also grew up in Glen Ellyn, she lived a life defined by devotion to family, community, and friendships. Her warmth, laughter, strength, and ability to bring people together will be remembered always.

In November 2001, she married the love of her life, Chris Watters, beginning a partnership rooted in laughter, loyalty, and shared purpose. Together, they raised three children – Ava, Jack, and Gwen – who were Melissa’s greatest pride and joy, guiding them with her fierce love.

Melissa was the daughter of Bruce, now deceased, and Joyce Callahan, inheriting her father’s unforgettable laugh and her mother’s natural instinct to elevate family. She loved music and played the violin from an early age through high school at Glenbard West. She was a graduate of Illinois State and later earned her master’s degree from Loyola University. In recent years, she served as a bookkeeper and advisor to numerous local businesses and organizations.

Deeply committed to her community, Melissa volunteered with Girl Scouts, PTOs, and Oak Park Youth Baseball and Softball, where her leadership and enthusiasm left a lasting impact. She loved sewing, crafting, annual cottage trips with family, McDonald’s Coke, Wheel of Fortune, Murder She Wrote, the Hallmark Channel, and cheering for the Cubs and Bears.

Melissa is survived by her husband, Chris; her children, Ava, Jack, and Gwen; her mother, Joyce; her siblings, Bruce (Catherine), Jeaneen (Tim), Katie (Ron), Chris (Caroline), and Patrick (Rebecca); her aunt, Edith; her in-laws, Edward, Lynn, Katie (Jeff), and Emily; her nieces and nephews, Richard (Stephanie), Jaclyn, Meghan (Tom), Alex, Sean (Allison), Kasey (Kevin), Colleen (Bob), Katie (Sam), John, Patrick, Erin (Ryan), Shannon, Connor, Shealy, Riley, Macy, Megan G., Shannon G., and Erin G.; her great-nieces and -nephews, Cassidy, Liam, Thomas, Parker, Aiden, Eleanor, Nicholas, Abigail, Brooks, Declan, Cole, and Waylon; and many cousins, extended family, and friends whose lives she brightened.
