This coming season, the Fenwick High School baseball program will make history as a woman will join the coaching staff.
Carolyn Yusa, who has been an assistant on the Friars’ varsity softball team the past two seasons, is set to become an assistant coach for the junior-varsity baseball team.
The school announced in a post on X (Twitter), Sept. 19, “Fenwick Baseball is particularly excited about the mental aspects of the game that Coach Yusa brings, having already built a strong rapport with our players through her role as a mathematics teacher and her experience in softball.
“We are excited for the leadership, teaching and energy she will add to our Friar family, both on and off the field.”
As an assistant coach under Valerie Jisa, Yusa helped guide Fenwick softball to its’ highest finish in state tournament history in 2024 as the Friars took home the IHSA Class 3A third-place trophy. She has also served as head coach of the junior-varsity cheerleading team.
