An hour or so after the Anchorage summit, and reporters’ evaluation that President Trump’s primary goal — getting a ceasefire in Ukraine — failed abjectly, this is what I read in War, Bob Woodward’s 2024 book, page 38: “On Fox News, Trump declared that Biden’s [June 16, 2021] summit with Putin was ‘a good day for Russia. … I don’t see what we got out of it,’ Trump said to Fox News anchor Sean Hannity. ‘We didn’t get anything. We gave a very big stage to Russia, and we got nothing.’”

That was, in effect, what news commentators across the news outlets said. But they typically were a bit more kindly and circumspect; that’s how responsible people in the news media function. As we know so well, DJT puts no limits on what he spouts, which is blunt, basic, and so often barbaric. And, in this case, embarrassingly accurate about his so-called “summit.”
