The Fenwick High School football team was scheduled to have its Homecoming game against De La Salle at Triton College Sept. 27.
However, the game will not be played because the Meteors have decided to forfeit the remainder of the season due to declining roster numbers, the Friars announced Sept. 26 in a news release.
De La Salle started the season with 23 varsity players, but lost six to injuries, leaving only 17 players available this week. The Meteors won only one of their four games played and were shut out three times – all via a running clock, which is implemented whenever a game margin is at least 40 points.
The forfeit goes into the win column for Fenwick (4-1). The Friars return to the field for a Chicago Catholic League/East Suburban Catholic Conference White Division game at St. Laurence, October 4, at 7:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Fenwick sophomore team meets Joliet West, while the freshmen host De La Salle. Both games are at Triton, Sept. 27, with the sophomore game at 5 p.m. and the freshman game at 7:30 p.m.
