Two firearms are missing after each were taken during separate vehicle burglaries. The first firearm, which Oak Park police describe only as “small caliber,” was inside a backpack, sitting inside a gray Infiniti JX35, which was broken into between 10 p.m., Sept. 4 and 6:25 a.m., Sept. 5. The vehicle, which had had its front passenger’s side window broken with a large rock, had been parked in the West Suburban Medical Center parking garage, 3 Erie Ct. The backpack holding the firearm also contained a holster, identification, cologne and a bottle of cognac.

A Sig Sauer 365 9mm pistol was also stolen from a blue Chevrolet Equinox parked in the 1000 block of North East Avenue on Sept. 10, between 8:52 p.m. and 9:48 p.m. The Equinox front passenger’s side door was unlocked at the time of the burglary. The pistol was inside a black bag, which was found without the pistol near the intersection of Berkshire Street and East Avenue.


  • A gold wedding band and Apple AirPods were taken from an unlocked 2014 Ford Focus parked in the 1100 block of Washington Boulevard between 9 p.m., Sept. 8 and 5:30 p.m., Sept. 9. The estimated loss is worth $850.

Motor vehicle theft

  • Someone used the valet key located in the center console of an unlocked 2003 silver Honda Accord to remove the vehicle between midnight and 1 p.m., Sept. 7 from the 200 block of Maple Street. Chicago police recovered the vehicle at 12:34 a.m., Sept. 8 in the 5100 block of West Lexington, Chicago.
  • A 2020 Kia Sportage, parked in the rear of a residence, was removed between 11 p.m., Sept. 8 and 7:20 a.m., Sept 9 from the 900 block of North Humphrey Avenue. The estimated loss is $26,000.
  • A man was seen removing the victim’s gray 2021 Honda HR-V, left running and unattended, at 10:54 a.m., Sept. 9 in the 6600 block of Roosevelt Road. The estimated loss is $25,645.
  • A blue 2015 Honda Metropolitan scooter was removed from the 1000 block of South Humphrey Avenue between noon, Sept. 4 and 4 p.m., Sept. 6. The estimated loss is $4,000.

Recovered stolen auto

  • The red 2013 Lexus, reported stolen in a carjacking on Sept. 2 in the 100 block of North Boulevard, was recovered by Forest Park police at 1:18 a.m., Sept. 6 in the 1000 block of Marengo Avenue in Forest Park.
  • The silver 2011 Chevy Suburban, reported stolen Aug. 31 from the 800 block of South Oak Park Avenue, was recovered at 3:23 a.m., Sept. 6 in the 4400 block of West End Avenue in Chicago.

Attempted motor vehicle theft

  • A blue Hyundai Elantra was found with its steering column peeled at 2 a.m., Sept. 10 in the 600 block of North Humphrey Avenue. 

Criminal property damage

  • Someone threw a brick at a residence’s front bay window, damaging it, between 10:40 p.m., Sept. 7 and 8:20 a.m., Sept. 8 in the 100 block of South Austin Boulevard. The estimated damage is $1,500.
  • The driver’s side window of a gray 2016 Mercury was shattered between 9 p.m., Sept. 7 and 8 a.m., Sept. 8 in the 900 block of South Boulevard.
  • The rear passenger’s side tire belonging to a gray 2018 Jeep SUV was slashed between 11 p.m., Sept. 9 and 11:08 a.m., Sept. 10. The estimated damage is $100.
  • A gray 2020 Land Rover’s rear passenger’s side tire was slashed between 9:30 a.m. and 9:52 a.m., Sept. 10 in the 600 block of Harrison Street.

These items, obtained from the Oak Park Police Department, came from reports through Sept. 6 to Sept. 12 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public’s help in making an arrest.
