The Fenwick High School wrestling team garnered a sixth-place finish at the Chicago Catholic League Championships on Jan. 22 at Mount Carmel High School in Chicago.
The Friars’ top individuals were Finn McGee (2nd at 152 pounds) and Jimmy Liston (2nd at 285).
Other Fenwick wrestlers to place in the top six of their respective weight classes were Tommy Sullivan (4th at 138 pounds), Martin Paris (5th, 160), Conor Paris (5th, 182) and Conor Stetz (3rd, 220).
The Friars will compete in the IHSA Class 2A Fenton Regional on Feb. 5.
Two Blazers named all-conference
The Trinity High School basketball team had two players — Lauren Miller and Sophia Rodriguez — named to the Girls Catholic Athletic Conference all-conference team.
Miller, a sophomore, is averaging 15 points and eight rebounds per game while shooting 49 percent from the field. Rodriguez, a junior, is averaging 8.5 points and three rebounds per game for the Blazers, who are 9-8 this season.
Miller (12 rebounds) and Rodriguez each scored 14 points and Fiona Lundt added 8 points and 2 steals in Trinity’s 52-24 victory over visiting Northside Prep on Jan. 22.
Fenwick’s Juette commits to St. Thomas
Fenwick High School senior Denium Juette announced Jan. 23 via Twitter his oral commitment to play football at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.
A cornerback, Juette will become the fifth player from the Friars’ 2021 Class 5A state championship team to continue his career at a NCAA Division I institution, joining quarterback Kaden Cobb (Ball State), center Jimmy Liston (Purdue), and wide receivers Eian Pugh (Illinois) and Max Reese (Eastern Michigan).
