Janis Marie Barrick, 64, died on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 in her home in Oak Park, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on Oct. 17, 1956 in Chicago to the late Walter and Delores (Nardi) Vavrina. She had been a resident of Oak Park for almost 40 years with her late husband James and their three children. She worked as a technology specialist for school District 97 in Oak Park for many years before retiring in 2011. In retirement, she spent time with family and friends, practiced yoga, went to dance classes, and worked part time at the Good Earth Greenhouse, as gardening and plants were a lifelong passion of hers.
Jan was the mother to one daughter, Sara, and her fiancé Jeff Zuffrano, and two sons, Adam and Aaron. She also leaves behind two brothers, James and Richard, and their wives Linda and Eileen, as well as three nieces and nephews, Richie, Stephanie, and Jonathan.
A memorial celebration will be held at her son Adam’s backyard, 2458 S. 3rd Ave., North Riverside, 60546 on Sunday April 11, 2021 from 12-2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
