After leaving it unlocked and running, a man returned to his 2016 Toyota RAV4 and found a stranger sitting inside his vehicle at 9:46 a.m., Feb. 9 in the 6500 block of Roosevelt Road. The stranger, a man of about 18 years in age, then began to drive away in the vehicle. The victim unsuccessfully attempted to stop the man from driving off, causing him to fall to the ground.
The vehicle was last seen traveling east on Roosevelt Road. Oak Park police recovered the vehicle in the 1100 block of the South Harvey Avenue without apprehension.
Someone entered a residence through an unlocked door and then took a canvas picture hanging on a wall inside between 3:45 p.m. and 7 p.m., Feb. 9 in the 1100 block of Westgate Street. The estimated value of the loss is unknown.
Someone entered an apartment building and removed several packages from the vestibule between 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m., Feb. 12 in the 800 block of North Boulevard. Unknown loss at the time of reporting.
A residential garage was forced open and a snow blower and tool kit, containing multiple tools, were removed from inside between 9 p.m., Feb. 12 and 12:18 p.m., Feb. 13 in the 600 block of North Kenilworth Avenue. The estimated loss is $1,200.
Someone entered a parked vehicle and removed a black leather wallet, containing the victim’s state identification card, driver’s license, a check and credit and debit cards between 7 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., Feb. 11 in the 800 block of North East Avenue. The total loss is $20.
Someone broke into another vehicle and removed a black Apple iPhone 6 and a Range Rover key fob between 7 a.m. and 11:29 a.m., Feb. 11 in the 800 block of North East Avenue. The total loss in that incident is $200.
Motor vehicle theft
A vehicle, left running and unattended, was removed from the 6100 block of North Avenue at 8:13 a.m., Feb. 11. Chicago police recovered the vehicle at 9:13 a.m., Feb. 11 in the 4500 block of North Avenue on the Chicago side. A cellular phone and cash were missing from the vehicle. The estimated loss is $150.
Criminal property damage
Someone punctured the two front tires of a vehicle in the 600 block of South Ridgeland Avenue between 6 p.m., Feb. 8 and 7:30 a.m., Feb. 9. The estimated damage is $200.
The doorknob and key lock to a storage unit were damaged between 3 p.m., Feb. 6 and 3 p.m., Feb. 13 in the 1000 block of Susan Collins Lane. The estimated damage is $50.
These items, obtained from the Oak Park Police Department, came from reports Feb. 9 – Feb. 15 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public’s help in making an arrest.
