Hannah R. Mathias (Aren), 64, of River Grove, formerly of Oak Park and River Forest, died suddenly on Nov. 25, 2020. Born on Feb. 12, 1956, she graduated from Oak Park and River Forest High School in 1973, received her bachelor’s in Liberal Arts from Judson University in Elgin, and later pursued her passion and earned a nursing degree from Concordia University in River Forest. A dedicated nurse for over 30 years, she spent 23 of those years caring for patients at the Marjorie Weinberg Cancer Center (Gottlieb/Loyola) as if they were her own family and friends. She provided compassion and care to all those she touched and healed with her humor. Her smile was infectious. Full of energy and light, she was enthusiastic about fitness. She loved her garden, the beauty of nature and all four-legged companions, especially her rescue dogs, Logan and Loki. She formed relationships with her friends that spanned decades. Selfless and kindhearted, to know her was to love her.
Hannah was the wife of Jack D. Mathias for 43 years; the mother of Dan (Lavette) and Laura (Gavin) Reeves; grandma of Madeline, Stella and Myles; sister of Debbie Hopper; aunt of Ericka (Zach) Adams, David (Brooke) and Randy Hopper; daughter of the late Edward and Regina Aren.
Due to COVID-19, a memorial gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Loyola Medicine-Marjorie Weinberg Cancer Center at Gottlieb or Magnificent Mutts & Meows Rescue.
Arrangements were handled by Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home.
