A genealogy research and memoir writing series, led by River Forest Township, won the Innovative Senior Program of the Year from the Illinois Township Association of Senior Citizens Committee (ITASCC). The award was announced at a virtual ceremony earlier this month.

The series, held at the River Forest Public Library, was led by genealogical researcher and instructor Charlie Thomas. Fellow presenter Cathaleen Roach, the River Forest Township senior outreach coordinator at the time, instructed participants on memoir writing, and the duo combined the two elements into one unique program.

ITASCC officials recognized the program for its focus on two separately popular areas and how closely connected they can be.

In addition, the ITASCC named Township Senior Services Director Pamela Mahn, who has been with senior services for almost 25 years and director for almost four, as its Senior Director of the Year.
