A Chicago man was shot in the abdomen while driving on I-290 at the Austin Boulevard exit at 2 p.m., Sept. 27.
As the victim was driving, a black vehicle pulled up next to him and a man in the vehicle fired several shots, striking the victim. According to police, the wound was superficial, and the victim is recovering.
Oak Park police state that the investigation is ongoing. The shooting does not appear to be an incident of road rage.
Robbery
Two male offenders pushed the victim down and then removed the victim’s bag, which contained two textbooks, a cellphone and a wallet at 8:40 p.m. on Sept. 28 in the 100 block of Elmwood Avenue. The estimated loss is $230.
Seven men, one with a firearm, attempted to rob an Oak Park resident of his bicycle at 7:44 p.m. on Sept. 24 in the first block of Lake Street. The offenders approached the victim and demanded he unlock his bike, then several offenders struck the victim.
One offender drew a gun while another tried to remove the victim’s skateboard, before all offenders fled eastbound.
Burglary
Someone entered an unlocked vehicle parked in the 600 block of South Taylor Avenue and removed several tools in from inside between 2 p.m. on Sept. 24 and 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 25. The estimated loss is $2,428.
Someone took a bicycle from an unlocked garage in the 900 block of North Elmwood Avenue between 5:15 p.m. on Sept. 25 and 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 26. Estimated loss is $1,400.
Someone broke into an unlocked residence in the 1200 block of North Euclid Avenue between 5:10 and 9 a.m. in Sept. 26 and took miscellaneous items, including car keys. The offender then drove off in the victim’s car. Police recovered the vehicle later that day.
Someone broke into an unlocked apartment in the 700 block of Lexington Street between 7:25 and 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 27 and took the victim’s purse which contained car keys. The offender then drove off in the victim’s vehicle. Estimated loss is $4,600.
Someone went into an unlocked garage in the 1200 block of Belleforte Avenue during the overnight hours of Sept. 26-27 and removed a snow blower. Estimated loss is $400.
Motor vehicle theft
An unlocked and running vehicle was removed from the 500 block of South Austin Boulevard at 2:53 a.m. on Sept. 26. The vehicle was recovered later that day.
Theft
A bicycle was removed from the 100 block of Francisco Terrace at 1:49 a.m. on Sept. 25. Estimated loss is $250.
Discharge of a firearm
Oak Park police officers responded to a report that shots had been fired in the 500 block of North Cuyler Avenue at 9:41 p.m. on Sept. 24. Officers found a damaged vehicle and window.
Oak Park police officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 1000 block of North Austin Boulevard at 11:40 p.m. on Sept. 25. Police reported finding shell casings at the scene. No damage or victims were reported.
Public indecency
A man was observed exposing his penis in the 500 block of North Humphrey Avenue between 9:04 and 9:15 a.m. on Sept. 25. Police described the man as Hispanic, thin, around 5-foot-9, with short hair and wearing a red T-shirt, dark shorts and a backpack.
These items, obtained from the Oak Park Police Department, came from reports Sept. 21-27 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public’s help in making an arrest.
