The total reconstruction of Lake Street in downtown Oak Park nears completion, as the portion of Lake Street between Harlem Avenue and Forest Avenue will reopen to traffic mid to late afternoon Friday, Sept. 4. Crews have completed a considerable portion of larger Lake Street reconstruction project; the entire project is expected to be finished by Thanksgiving.

With the reopening of the stretch from Harlem Avenue to Forest Avenue, vehicles will have full access to streets in downtown Oak Park, as well as on-street and garage parking. The new sidewalks and crosswalks have improved accessibility and less clutter.

Downtown Oak Park has newly built intersections at Marion Street and Forest Avenue, as well as a new and rebuilt Lake Street and sidewalks. Downtown also has new traffic signals, trees, landscaping and furniture.

Crews have completed installing new asphalt pavement, bluestone pavers, brick intersections, pavement markings, lighting and stop lights, and other upgrades to the infrastructure of Downtown Oak Park. Remaining Lake Street work includes signage and street furniture; crews will install them in coming weeks.
