At least four people died after a car crashed into Starbucks on the 400 block of Harlem Ave. at 12:49 a.m. on Aug. 9. The vehicle struck a planter, light pole and the wall of the closed coffee shop.

The car was occupied by five people, two who were dead on the scene and two who were transported to a local hospital where they died as a result of their injuries. According to a press release from the River Forest Police Department, the reported driver was also transported to a local hospital.

River Forest, Oak Park and Forest Park police responded and secured the scene, and the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force (WESTAF) was called to assist with the crash investigation.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact the River Forest Detective Unit at 708-366-7125.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased,” said River Forest Chief James O’Shea in the press release.
