Carey Kadlec, 71, a 67-year resident of Oak Park, died on July 13, 2020 with his family at his side. He attended Lincoln School, and Oak Park and River Forest High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard a destroyer escort which was fired upon from shore during the Vietnam War. Upon discharge he first worked as a pressman at the Chicago Sun-Times, then became a supervisor at the Illinois State Tollway Authority, from which he retired.
A lifelong, avid fan of the White Sox and Blackhawks, he enjoyed coaching Pony League baseball with his brother, Randy.
Carey was the father of four sons, Brian, Tom (pre-deceased), Jeff, and Kyle. He leaves five grandchildren, and his wife, Patricia Anderson Kadlec.
A celebration of his life will be held when the coronavirus pandemic allows for normal social action.
